How the scoring works

Correct answers carry most of the score. Speed affects the result once accuracy is stable. Complete runs can adjust your target times.

U Tiger provides short, targeted training for skills used in the UCAT. Use it alongside official practice tests and full mock platforms. It is a free add-on for practising underlying operations. Continue using full mocks and official materials for complete preparation. Use the official UCAT practice materials for representative full-test familiarisation.

Cause

Association, sequence and anecdotes can suggest a cause. Designs and comparisons determine how strongly it is supported.

Sampling

Check who could enter the sample, who responded and which group the conclusion describes.

Argument structure

Look for repeated conclusions, missing alternatives, changed definitions and attacks that leave the evidence untouched.

Probability

Use base rates, set inclusion and effect size. Vivid detail often makes narrow claims feel more likely than they are.

Compact methods for numerical data

Locate before calculating

Name the row, column and unit required by the question. Ignore data that do not feed the requested quantity.

Percentage base

Write every percentage as “percentage of what?”. A later percentage often applies to a subgroup created by an earlier step.

part = whole × proportion

Reverse percentage

Identify the proportion represented by the known amount, then divide.

whole = part ÷ proportion

Increase and decrease

Use multipliers: 15% increase gives 1.15; 15% decrease leaves 0.85.

new = original × multiplier

Ratios

Calculate both named quantities in common units. Form and simplify the ratio only after both are known.

Rates

Choose the denominator in words. Compare rates rather than counts when group sizes differ.

rate = outcome ÷ relevant total

Units

Convert millions, thousands, kilograms, grams, hours and minutes before mixing quantities. Let the desired unit indicate the operation.

Estimate and triage

Estimate the answer range, calculate close options, and move on when extra certainty threatens later questions.

Constraint grids

Record fixed positions first. Add exclusions, order and adjacency. Test answer options against the full rule set.

Five statements

Judge every conclusion independently. A conclusion follows only when no arrangement satisfying the premises can make it false.

Venn regions

Separate only, both, either and neither. Add disjoint regions once each.

Probability

Define the denominator. Check replacement, independence, overlap and conditional information before choosing an operation.

Strongest argument

Look for direct relevance, practical importance and evidence. Anecdotes and general approval carry little weight.

Timing

Use the scratch tools for structure. Stop expanding the diagram once an option is proved or eliminated.
